A social approach to lighting design: LIGHT-SPACE-PEOPLE-TIME RELATION considering context, nighttime based activity, people feedbacks and behaviours.

In this prototpe situation, people are unconscious dynamic switches and are enabled to lit a portion of their space: lighting is shaped by the social use of the space and the space is shaped by lighting. The environment is lit reflecting its use. Slow lighting dynamics orient and follow the way people are moving in the space, echoing the way they use the space.

A SUPERSIMPLE LINEAR CAUSAL LIGHTING INTERACTION was designed to create an interactive basic response to actions by person (or environment): each person is detected and triggers the light to be turned on. Human beings are conceived as dynamic switches: light turn on in a predetermined way (designed scene) while a person is passing through. So, lighting scenes can be designed to activate or not activate lighting or to create patterns and dynamics when a person does something. What kind of impact and effects this lighting behaviour should invoke and provoke in people? What kind of feelings is going to elicit?
